THE HOSHIN GOAL:
This group approach, based on the simulation of production, is used to demonstrate to everyone the advantages of teamwork and show how the group can contribute to improving the status quo.
The performance parameters are thus measured, analysed, and improved, step by step.
HOSHIN is a Japanese word whose etymology suggests the "metallic reflection of a compass needle", one which points all individual units in the direction of a common goal. The word KANRI means plan or schedule.
Attempts at translating HOSHIN KANRI have yielded terms like policy deployment, policy management, goal deployment, and others.
A lot of companies however just keep the Japanese name, often shortened to HOSHIN.

THE OBJECTIVES :
Strategic objectives defined at the highest level represent the goal to be achieved, the vision.
- - This vision must be universally shared so that everyone contributes at their own level to achieving these objectives, which we shall call “higher” objectives out of convenience.
- Each hierarchical or functional step on the stair defines its own objectives. Meeting these enables progress toward higher objectives.
- This principle cascades down to the bottom by vertical diffusion or by inter-departmental coordination (horizontal collaboration), or by a combination of both.
- The concept aims to arrange that once all the lower level objectives are reached, the next higher objective is automatically reached, and so on.
- At regular pre-set intervals, progress is checked by means of indicators defined at the same time as the objectives. Each level reports its progress to the next level up. Progress is assessed and any variance must be made good.
